Voices from Quebec
Sarge & Pauline Bampton
Region:
Eastern Townships

Day lectures only
From 1869 to 1948 more than 100,000 children from poor and destitute families were sent from Great Britain to work as agricultural and domestic labourers in rural Canada. This “solution” to poverty and overcrowding in British cities was also the starting point for 7,000 young immigrants to Quebec’s Eastern Townships region. Most never returned to their homes and families. Sarge Bampton is the son of two Home Children. He and his wife Pauline offer a very personal account of this moving and often tragic episode in Quebec history.
